We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Air Conditioning Engineer in Rugby
Custom Heat has looked after homes in the Midlands since 1980. We’ve recently become Custom Heat & Cool, and the new name reflects where we’re going: heating and cooling for homes, from the same team people already call about their boiler.
We’re family-run, with around 80 people across four trades, more than 30,000 customers and 4,800 Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.8. Last year we won the HPM Award and the West Midlands Energy Efficiency Award. Most of our work is domestic, and our commercial customers include Red Bull Racing, the Royal Collection Trust and David Lloyd.
More than an engineer’s job
Air conditioning is the part of the business we most want to grow, and we need an experienced engineer to lead it technically. You’ll still spend much of your week on the tools, but the role goes further than that:
- Training our heating engineers in air conditioning, so more of the team can install and maintain it
- Technical support for our surveyors: reviewing AC surveys, advising on system design and equipment, and feeding into their development
- Leading on ducted and VRF work, and supporting other engineers on site
- Helping shape how air conditioning grows across our teams and the communities we work in
Your own work
A mix of service, repair and installation, domestic and commercial: split, multi-split, ducted and VRF/VRV.
- Installing, commissioning and handing over systems
- Planned maintenance and servicing to manufacturer standards
- Fault-finding and repairs, and explaining to customers what was wrong and what you did
- Keeping job records, commissioning sheets and F-Gas paperwork up to date
- Working safely, including our working-at-height procedures
The van comes home with you and you go straight to your first job. You’ll come into Rugby for parts, van checks, team meetings and training. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8 til 5. If you need different hours, mention it at interview and we’ll talk it through under our flexible working arrangements.
Experience
- F-Gas Category 1 (essential)
- Substantial air conditioning experience, including ducted and VRF systems
- Installation experience, domestic and commercial
- Experience of training, mentoring or supervising other engineers
- Strong electrical fault-finding and a good understanding of controls
- Experience with Daikin, Mitsubishi, Haier, Toshiba, Fujitsu or similar
- A full UK driving licence
Useful but not essential: system design or surveying experience, manufacturer VRF training, NVQ Level 3 in refrigeration and air conditioning.
