Help us find a Leamington family struggling in the heat this summer
At Custom Heat & Cool, we’ve spent over four decades keeping homes and businesses across the Midlands comfortable, whatever the weather. This summer, we want to use that experience to make a real difference to one family in Royal Leamington Spa who’s really struggling in the heat — by installing a domestic air conditioning unit worth up to £4,500, completely free of charge.
Why we’re doing this
This initiative is close to our hearts. In 2022, we were contacted about four-year-old Jenson Smith from Warwick, who suffered 93% burns to his body after a tragic accident as a toddler. For Jenson, warm weather wasn’t just uncomfortable — it caused him significant distress. His family had spent two years trying, without success, to secure funding for air conditioning that would help him cope.
We heard about Jenson’s story through an NHS nurse who lived opposite him, and reached out to our Managing Director, Lincoln Smith. There was no hesitation. We sourced and fitted two Worcester Bosch air conditioning units in the family’s home at no cost, and it transformed their summers.

“When we heard about Jenson’s story there was no doubt in our minds that we could help, and seeing the difference it made to his life has stayed with all of us. We know there are other families out there in similar situations who are really struggling in the heat, and we want to find them. We’re asking the charities and NHS teams who know these families best to come forward on their behalf.”
Who we’re looking for
We know that the families who need this kind of support most aren’t always the ones who can put themselves forward — which is why we’re asking the people who know them best to nominate on their behalf.
We’re inviting nominations from:
- Registered charities
- Hospices
- Hospitals
- NHS community teams
- Social workers
- Individuals who are able to verify the family’s need
To be considered, the nominated family must:
- Live in Royal Leamington Spa or the surrounding areas
- Live in a domestic property
- Either own their home, or have landlord permission for an installation to take place
Please note, self-nominations cannot be accepted.
How to nominate a family
You can put a family forward by completing our short nomination form, with a brief outline of why the family would benefit from a free air conditioning installation.
The deadline for nominations is 31st July 2026. We’ll contact the successful family directly, and the installation will be carried out entirely at our cost.
